Open Library—Door’s closed, but the library is open!

04.11.2024

Starting off with a test phase from November 4, 2024, we will operate the Musicology location of the Humanities Library as an Open Library.

What does this mean? The Open Library is open for you, even if we’re not around. Allowing us to create the conditions for flexible opening hours in the future. You can find all information about this in this overview.

Gutenberg Bibles from the Gutenberg Museum accessible in Gutenberg Capture

16.10.2024

In cooperation with the Gutenberg Museum and other partners, the University Library Mainz has digitized two valuable Gutenberg Bibles and made them accessible online. The digitized Bibles can now be browsed through in "Gutenberg Capture", viewed in detail and searched thanks to a special text recognition software developed at JGU.

This project makes Gutenberg's cultural heritage accessible to the public and researchers worldwide.

New Service: Virtual Guidance System

05.04.2024

With the help of our new virtual guidance system, you can view the exact location of all freely accessible media, down to the specific shelf.

To do this, go to the Research Portal and call up the desired title. A link next to the location information will take you directly to the 3D model of one of our library buildings. There, you can recognize the shelf you are looking for by the highlighted color.

The system is still under development, but we are eager to make it available to you now. If you notice any errors, please send your feedback to info@ub.uni-mainz.de. Thank you!
