The Research Network for University History (Forschungsverbund Universitätsgeschichte, FVUG) was founded in 2001 as an interdisciplinary working group. It promotes and supports research on the history of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz after 1945.
The FVUG consists of scientists from all disciplines as well as representatives of local archives.
The Research Network publishes the series “Beiträge zur Geschichte der Universität Mainz – Neue Folge”, which is published by Mainz University Press, as well as smaller publications, such as the brochure “Kurze Geschichte der Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz” (PDF).
The memories of contemporary witnesses collected in various FVUG projects document and preserve the history of our university.
The Research Network also plays a role as an organizer of events.
The FVUG works closely with the Mainz University Archives and provides significant support for the work on the Mainz Academic Directory Gutenberg Biographics.
Interested researchers who want to support the work of the Research Network are always welcome. We are also particularly pleased to receive inquiries from students.
