The USA Library, one of the largest special libraries on the subject of the USA in Germany, offers interdisciplinary literature and information about the United States of America. Its focus is on social sciences, culture, and history.
A Collection That Grows and Thrives
In 1993, the former Camp Lindsey Library from Wiesbaden was gifted to Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The resulting USA Library, housed in the Georg Forster Building Library, now comprises around 80,000 books. They are systematically organized according to the Dewey Decimal Classification and freely accessible. Most of the collection can be borrowed. But it is not only the library’s printed collection that is constantly growing. There is also an extensive range of e-books as well as electronic full-text journals and magazines, some of which are also available as print editions. You can also access the online editions of the leading American newspapers “New York Times” and “Washington Post”. Numerous older volumes of magazines and daily newspapers are usually available on microfiche or microfilm.
